BAND CAMP - What to ExpectThe marching show comes together through two summer weeks of hard work.
Band Camp is the last week of July and the first week of August - usually hot and sunny. The following are a few notes about Band Camp:
Lunch: A band camp tradition is each section has lunch together either at local restaurants or hosted by parents at a home, church, or restaurant. Some sections will split up into smaller groups this year. THESE LUNCHES ARE OPTIONAL. Be aware that kids ride with teenage drivers to these locations, in accordance with state law.. After lunch, the band will try to utilize indoor space during some of the hotter parts of the day to work on the music, but not guaranteed. The kids bond and grow closer during this week. Life-long friendships are cultivated. Fun team-building activities are led by each section’s student leaders. Parent Night is at the end of the second week. The marching show is debuted to the rousing applause of proud friends and family! |
Volunteer, Please!Contact:
Paula Johnson [email protected] Link to Volunteer Form Volunteers must fill out a volunteer form every year which is good for all band volunteer opportunities. Parent volunteers Assist Students: Parents are needed during band camp to assist students with emergent needs such as overheating, needing sunscreen, blister care, etc. Volunteers will be outside under a tent. Some days there will be more to do than others, so feel free to bring something to do during the quiet times. Help is needed daily from 7:45am - 12:00pm and 1:30pm - 4:00pm. Uniform distribution: Parents are needed during band camp to assist with uniform fitting. This is a volunteer opportunity that is best for those who are able to help on a regular basis during camp. The uniform fitting process starts off slowly but picks up pace as everyone gets more comfortable with the procedure. Having a core team of 6 volunteers is very helpful. More to come on this important activity! |
